Google Health Integration

    StepUp4ICU is a digital fitness and fundraising application operated by the Australian & New Zealand Intensive Care Foundation (ICF).

    The application allows participants to take part in the StepUp4ICU challenge by completing 200,000 steps during October, tracking their activity and progress, and raising funds to support intensive care research and education across Australia and New Zealand.

    Participants can choose to connect their Google Health account to StepUp4ICU to automatically record eligible activity rather than entering their activity manually.

    What does StepUp4ICU do?

    StepUp4ICU allows participants to:

    • participate in the 200,000-step challenge;
    • track their activity and progress towards their challenge goal;
    • automatically record eligible activity using Google Health;
    • view their activity and challenge progress; and
    • participate in individual and team fundraising and challenge activities.

    Google Health integration is optional. Participants can participate in StepUp4ICU without connecting Google Health by manually recording their activity.

      Why StepUp4ICU uses Google Health

      Participants can choose to connect their Google Health account to StepUp4ICU. Where participants use Fitbit or other compatible activity tracking services that sync with Google Health, to automatically record their activity during the challenge.

      Google Health is used by StepUp4ICU to securely access the activity and fitness information that participants have authorised. Fitbit devices and accounts provide activity data that is available through Google Health.

      When a participant chooses to connect Google Health, StepUp4ICU accesses authorised activity and fitness information to automatically track challenge progress. The integration also uses limited profile and account configuration information required to identify the participant's connected Google account and maintain the connection between Google Health and the StepUp4ICU platform.

      StepUp4ICU uses Google Health activity and fitness information, including steps, activity duration, and activity date and time.

      • Steps – to calculate the number of steps completed and track progress towards the participant's StepUp4ICU goal.
      • Activity duration – to accurately record the duration associated with eligible activity.
      • Activity date and time – to identify when activity occurred and ensure it is correctly attributed to the appropriate day of the challenge.
      • Basic profile information – to identify and associate the connected Google account with the participant's StepUp4ICU account.
      • Account configuration information – to maintain and manage the authorised connection between Google Health and the StepUp4ICU platform.

      This information is used to automatically record and display participants' activity and progress within the StepUp4ICU challenge.

      How the integration works

      Participants choose whether to connect their Google Health account to StepUp4ICU. Google Health data is only accessed after the participant provides permission.

      StepUp4ICU uses the information received from Google Health to:

      • automatically record eligible activity
      • calculate and display participant progress
      • attribute activity to the appropriate date during the challenge
      • support individual and team participation in the StepUp4ICU challenge
      • identify and associate the connected Google account with the participant's StepUp4ICU account
         maintain the authorised connection between Google Health and the StepUp4ICU platform

      Participants can still participate in StepUp4ICU without connecting Google Health by using the participation options provided by the StepUp4ICU platform.

      Your Google Health data

      StepUp4ICU uses read-only access to Google Health data. The application does not create, modify, delete, or share information stored within a participant's Google Health account.

      Information obtained from Google Health is used solely to support participation in the StepUp4ICU challenge, including activity tracking, challenge progress calculations, account identification and maintenance of the authorised Google Health connection.

      Google Health data is not sold, used for advertising purposes, or shared with third parties except where required to provide the StepUp4ICU service.
