Steps Taken

Beyond the numbers

Collectively, we walked the equivalent distance of Sydney to London!

But beyond the numbers, this challenge was about something bigger. Every single step helped raise awareness for the more than 200,000 people admitted to intensive care units across Australia and New Zealand every year. Behind every ICU admission is a person, a family and a healthcare team navigating some of life’s most critical moments.

Thanks to your support, StepUp4ICU is helping fund:

  • Life-saving intensive care research
  • Education and training for ICU clinicians
  • Better outcomes for critically ill patients and their families

To everyone who donated, fundraised, walked, supported teammates or spread awareness, thank you!

Fundraisers stories

Fundraisers added blog posts throughout their StepUp4ICU journey, sharing their early morning walks and lunchtime laps to team challenges, personal milestones and fundraising achievements.

Kat's Story

"Intensive care is deeply personal to me. Having family members who have both worked in ICU and received ICU care, I've seen firsthand the impact of critical care from both perspectives. That's why StepUp4ICU matters—every step helps fund vital research and education to improve outcomes for critically ill patients and their families."

Jess's Story

"I’m a great believer in steps. Just one step at a time - that’s pretty much my daily motto. And an important message we use when supporting families/whanau and patients in ICU. I’m happy to lend my steps to support ICU and I hope with any funds raised, we can improve care for the people at the centre of our service, our patients.

My faithful pup companion Ruby will be with me on most walks. 🐾  shame we can’t count dog steps! "

Ashamol's Story

"As a Intensive care nurse daily I come across the struggle and resilience of patients admitted to ICU , every small steps I take is a tribute to their journey through ICU and for all family members who support them and the entire team of critical care family including doctors nurses and physio and different multidisciplinary teams involved"
